
Founded in 1991, University Mobility in the Asia and Pacific (UMAP) is a voluntary association of government and non-government representatives of the higher education sector. The general aim of UMAP is for the countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region to achieve a better understanding of the cultural, economic, and social systems of one another through enhanced cooperation among higher education institutions and increased mobility of university students and staff.
With , UMAP offers a range of programs that support student mobility and academic collaboration across the Asia-Pacific region, including for virtual exchanges and in-person mobility programs that enable students to study at partner institutions abroad. The association also offers that support both inbound and outbound exchange and professional development, collaborative research and international networking .
ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ (ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½), representing member country Canada, served as the UMAP IS from 2021 to 2025. This role was generously supported by Global Affairs Canada, and over the five-year period, ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ administered more than $1 million CAD in scholarships to students across the UMAP consortium, enabling participants to study in Canada or for Canadian students to pursue studies abroad through academic year, semester-long, short-term, and virtual programs.
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) is serving as the UMAP IS for the 2026–2030 term.
As a legacy of its leadership and in order to sustain the strength of the UMAP Canada membership in the consortium, ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ applied to serve as the managing institution for a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship program on behalf of UMAP Canada members.
